WHAT | Academy at Metrograph. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Presents A Special Screening of The Postman Always Rings Twice with Novelist Laura Lippman
WHEN |August 1st at 7:00PM
WHERE | Metrograph, No. 7 Ludlow Street

ABOUT | The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) will continue its monthly residency at Metrograph on August 1st, with a special screening of The Postman Always Rings Twice, with New York Time Best Selling author of Sunburn, Laura Lippman in-person to present the film. Inspired by James M. Cain’s cinematic masterpiece The Postman Always Rings Twice, Lippman’s novel Sunburn is a tantalizing modern noir that was named one of the Most Anticipated Books of 2018!

ABOUT THE POSTMAN ALWAYS RINGS TWICE | James M. Cain’s 1934 tale of sadism-tinged lust, greed, and murder in California, got its essential adaptation here via Garnett’s sweat-soaked, atmospheric evocation of roadside America, featuring John Garfield as fall-guy drifter Frank Chambers and Lana Turner as the married truck stop hash-slinger with whom he begins to plot the perfect murder. You could cut the sexual tension between the stars with a knife, so you’d better believe MGM had a devil of a time slipping this one past the Production Code censors.

ABOUT THE ACADEMY AT METROGRAPH | The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) began a yearlong residency at Metrograph in July 2017, bringing exciting and entertaining programs to the big screen. Programs in ACADEMY AT METROGRAPH have and continue to feature onstage conversations with filmmakers and scholars of motion pictures, tributes, newsreels, rarely seen clips from past Oscar® ceremonies, and home movies from Hollywood legends.  This monthly series highlights unique archival elements, including recent restorations and film prints from the Academy Film Archive by celebrating classic moments from the Academy’s 90-year history.
