A Good Day to Be Black & Sexy |
Ten years ago, “A Good Day to Be Black & Sexy” made a stellar debut at the Sundance Film Festival, and extended to the modern film world a fierce and unconventional view into the myths and truths of Black sexuality. Creating a touchstone that still exists in modern cinema and independent media, audiences can celebrate the 10th-anniversary screening of this underrated film on October 17th at BAMcinematek, the film arm of the Brooklyn Academy of Music.
In “...Black & Sexy,” writer/director Dennis Dortch offers audiences deftly arranged vignettes that portray how men and women in Los Angeles explore desire, sex, and love. Unjustly overlooked upon its release, yet a game-changer in establishing a highly successful web series network model with the highly-popular Black&Sexy.TV network (with "Hello Cupid," "RoomieLoverFriends", "Chef Julian" and more), “A Good Day to Be Black and Sexy” stands as a smart, steamy, and still all-too-rare film exploration of Black relationships and sexuality featuring an ensemble cast that includes Allen Maldonado (“Black-ish”, “The Last O.G.”), Marcius Harris (“Vice Principals,” “Rebel”), and Kathryn Taylor Smith (“Criminal Minds”).
Post-screening Q&A with director Dennis Dortch, actor Allen Maldonado, and producer Adetoro Makinde. Presented by The Luminal Theater, Black & Sexy TV, and BAMcinématek
