THE FILM SOCIETY OF LINCOLN CENTER APRIL 29, GALA

50th Anniversary Gala on Monday, April 29, 2019, in Alice Tully Hall

The Film Society of Lincoln Center added Darren Aronofsky, Jake Gyllenhaal, Dee Rees, and Martin Scorsese as special guest speakers for the https://www.filmlinc.org/50th-anniversary/ on Monday, April 29, 2019, in Alice Tully Hall. They will join previously announced guests Pedro Almodóvar, Marielle Heller, Tilda Swinton, and John Waters at the gala honoring the organization’s legendary past and vibrant present, and looking ahead as it extends its commitment to the film community.
The participants each have a special connection to the Film Society’s history: Darren Aronofsky’s feature debut Pi (1998) was selected for the 27th New Directors/New Films, and The Wrestler (2008) was Closing Night of the 46th New York Film Festival; Jake Gyllenhaal’s film Wildlife, which he starred in and produced through his production company Nine Stories, premiered at last year’s New York Film Festival; Dee Rees’s feature debut, Pariah (2011), was selected for the 40th edition of New Directors/New Films, and her follow-up, Mudbound (2017), screened at the 55th New York Film Festival; and Martin Scorsese has had seven films screen in the New York Film Festival beginning with Mean Streets in 1973, and he was the recipient of the Chaplin Award in 1998 and a guest speaker in the organization’s first education program.
The 50th Anniversary Gala will tell the story of the Film Society of Lincoln Center’s semi-centennial, reflecting and building upon the organization’s half-century introducing New York audiences to many of the industry’s most acclaimed and important filmmakers. The special guest speakers will present this history alongside a collection of interviews and archival footage, photographs, and film clips that will reflect upon the organization and its role in New York City film culture. In honoring the past, the evening will celebrate a film community that is helping to shape the future of our art form.
The Gala is the most important fundraising event of the Film Society’s landmark anniversary year, and all proceeds will benefit the organization in its mission to support the art and craft of cinema.
