PEOPLE OF COLOR WIN BIG AT THE 93rd ACADEMY AWARDS®

The POC Wins Last Night is Not a Phase. It is Here to Stay and This Will Be The New Normal


It was one of the best Oscar® nights in many years. The 93rd Academy Awards® saw Black, Brown, Yellow, and all shades in between getting nominated with a majority of awards last night going to People of Color and history being made with several firsts. As the energy in the Los Angeles Union Station lobby surged with these wins, it probably dawned on everyone in the room and audiences worldwide that finally a benchmark has been set by the most coveted award in entertainment and that the POC wins last night is not a passing phase. It is here to stay and this will be the New Normal. This is certain. 

A roaring shout-out to all the POC winners! Here you go:

Best Actor in a Supporting Role

Daniel Kaluuya (“Judas and the Black Messiah”) (WINNER)


Daniel Kaluuya will go down in history as one of the greatest acting talents of our time. 













Best Director

Chloé Zhao (“Nomadland”) (WINNER)


Chloé Zhao is the first Woman of Color and the second woman to win the Best Director Oscar®. This tribe is increasing for this category. Period. 



Best Live-Action Short Film

“Two Distant Strangers” (WINNER)


A visually and psychologically captivating piece that will remain embedded in your mind for a long time. And then will want you to take action.
















Best Makeup and Hairstyling

“Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom,” Sergio Lopez-Rivera, Mia Neal, Jamika Wilson,  (WINNER)


Mia Neal and Jamika Wilson have become the first black women to win an Oscar® for Makeup and Hairstyling.



















Best Actress in a Supporting Role

Yuh-Jung Youn (“Minari”) (WINNER)


Yuh-Jung Youn becomes the first Korean woman in The Academy's history to win an acting Oscar®.




Best Original Song

H.E.R., Tiara Thomas, Dernst Emile (WINNER)


The trio beat the rest of the nominees in this category to win for their song "Fight For You" from "Judas and the Black Messiah".




Best Original Score

“Soul,” Trent Reznor, Atticus Ross, Jon Batiste (WINNER)


Grammy-nominated singer, composer, musician, songwriter, and bandleader, Jon Batiste won his first Oscar® for his inspiring compositions for "Soul". Batiste was also the visual inspiration for the Pixar animators as to how Soul's protagonist Joe (voiced by Jamie Foxx) would look and move as he played the piano in the film.





Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award

Tyler Perry


Tyler Perry is the 2021 Oscar recipient of the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award for his years of selfless and tireless work towards helping thousands of human beings in financial crisis and the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
