12th Annual International Puerto Rican Heritage Film Festival (IPRHFF) November 9 to the 13th - Take A Look

12th Annual International Puerto Rican Heritage Film Festival (IPRHFF)

November 9 to the 13th

WEPA— from November 9 to the 13th — the 12th Annual International Puerto Rican Heritage Film Festival (IPRHFF) returns to New York’s El Museo del Barrio with a roster of films, shorts, animation, and panel discussions with industry thought leaders.

The five-day festival’s goal is to create a collaborative environment for artists from all countries to explore issues inherent to the heritage of Puerto Rico, and its diaspora, and explore stories relevant to the larger Latino community.

The opening night film that kicks off  The International Puerto Rican Heritage Film Festival is the film “Mixtape” by director Benjamin López.

“Mixtape” centers on a socially awkward music prodigy navigating a new school who is trying to win the affection of the most popular girl in school, and to help him in this Herculean endeavor is an unlikely mentor–the school janitor.

IPRHFF festival director Xavier Santiago has been part of the festival for many years and speaks to the determination of the creative community.

“Despite the many disasters, ranging from the multiple Hurricanes to the fiscal control board and Covid-19, Puerto Ricans persevere in creating compelling and brilliant films that continue to touch hearts everywhere. We are filled with pride to provide our audience and filmmakers with an in-person experience – the way the film was intended. We've exhibited at major theaters throughout New York City during past editions.

This year, however, is a clarion call for equitable investment in our cultural arts institutions in 'La Cuna'  aka El Barrio. Each venue hosting the International Puerto Rican Heritage Film Festival has played an integral part in lifting up or highlighting the Puerto Rican people. Join us at El Museo del Barrio, Julia de Burgos Cultural Arts Center, and the Museum of the City of New York for five days of fantastic films!”

Festival CEO and Founder, Veronica Caicedo (of Caicedo Productions, Corp.) add: “We are pleased to continue connecting Boricua artists from New York City and beyond and are looking forward to celebrating our cultural heritage with them this year and in even grander style in future years to come."
