OPENING TONIGHT AT BROADWAY’S ST. JAMES THEATRE! “Be A Part Of It…”
The brand-new musical "New York, New York" opened on Broadway at the St. James Theatre on April 26, 2023. Produced by Sonia Friedman and Tom Kirdahy, this musical features music and lyrics by Tony, Emmy, and Grammy Award winners, and Academy Award nominees John Kander and Fred Ebb. It is directed and choreographed by five-time Tony Award winner Susan Stroman, with a book by Tony Award nominee David Thompson, co-written by Sharon Washington, and additional lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda.
The story follows a group of New Yorkers chasing their dreams of music, money, and love. The show stars Colton Ryan, Anna Uzele, Clyde Alves, John Clay III, Janet Dacal, Ben Davis, Oliver Prose, Angel Sigala, and Tony Award nominee Emily Skinner.
The production design includes scenic design by Tony Award winner Beowulf Boritt, costume design by Emmy Award winner Donna Zakowska, lighting design by Tony Award winner Ken Billington, sound design by Tony Award winner Kai Harada, projection design by Christopher Ash and Beowulf Boritt, and hair & wig design by Emmy Award winner Sabana Majeed. Music supervision and arrangements are by Sam Davis, with orchestrations by Tony Award winner Daryl Waters and Sam Davis, vocal arrangements by David Loud, and music direction by Alvin Hough Jr.
Tickets are on sale at www.NewYorkNewYorkBroadway.com or at the St. James Theatre box office, with prices ranging from $49 to $279. The playing schedule is Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday at 7 pm, Wednesday and Saturday at 8 pm, with matinees Wednesday and Saturday at 2 pm and Sunday at 3 pm.
"New York, New York" is the first new John Kander and Fred Ebb musical to open on Broadway since 2015’s "The Visit," which was nominated for five Tony Awards including Best Musical. The legendary duo is also currently represented on Broadway with "Chicago," which holds the distinction of being the longest-running American musical in Broadway history.
The musical is inspired by the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Motion Picture New York, New York written by Earl M. Rauch. The production is presented by Sonia Friedman Productions and Tom Kirdahy, with various other producers and companies involved in the presentation.
