"American Sikh: The Story of a Turbaned Superhero" - A Tribeca Selected Animated Short Film

In a post-9/11 world, Vishavjit Singh struggled to find acceptance as a Sikh man living in the United States. But he didn't let the hate and violence he faced define him. Instead, he created his own superhero persona - a turbaned Captain America - to challenge the narrow perceptions of what an American (and a superhero) should look like.

Now, Singh's journey is being chronicled in the animated short film "American Sikh," which will have its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival this June. Directed by Ryan Westra and produced by Singh, the film highlights the need for more inclusive narratives and representation of the AAPI community in today's media landscape.

The film tells the story of Singh's lifelong struggle for acceptance and how he found it by embracing his Sikh identity and becoming a superhero. Animated by Studio Showoff, the film captures the power of Singh's message and his journey of self-discovery.

Director Ryan Westra is known for capturing powerful and important stories, and "American Sikh" is no exception. The film challenges viewers to confront their own biases and to see the beauty in diversity.

Join Singh and the filmmakers for a screening of "American Sikh" at the Tribeca Film Festival on June 10th, June 11th, or June 17th. Don't miss this opportunity to witness the inspiring journey of a real-life superhero.
