The New York Comedy Festival (NYCF) crowned Matt Koff as the winner of the 15th Annual “New York’s Funniest Stand-Up” Competition Presented by Death Wish Coffee. The event, which took place on Saturday, November 11th at the festival’s official host hotel, The Venue at Hard Rock Hotel (259 West 48th Street), was launched in 2008 to shine a spotlight on some of the comedy industry’s top emerging talent and was hosted Paul Costabile.
This year’s winner, Matt Koff, is an award-winning TV writer and standup comic, who won an Emmy for his work on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. Matt has appeared on Comedy Central, WNYC, WFMU, and The History Channel and has also written for The Onion and The White House Correspondents' Dinner hosted by Trevor Noah. He co-created the Twitter sensation TrumpComedyNerd, which was named one of the 207 Top Comedy Moments of 2010s by Vulture. He competed against the nine other finalists, Pat Burtscher, Peng Dang, Julio Diaz, Matt Koff, Gavin Matts, Paris Sashay, Tre’ Stewart, Vishnu Vaca, Jake Velazquez, and Maddie Wiener. Along with the coveted title of “New York’s Funniest Stand-Up,” Koff received a cash prize.

Matt Koff joins some of the biggest names in comedy that were past winners of “New York’s Funniest Stand-Up” including Nate Bargatze (2010), Michael Che (2012), Ricky Velez (2014), and Tim Dillon (2016), among others.

The competition was hosted as a part of the 19th Annual New York Comedy Festival. The 2023 festival was bigger than ever, expanding from 7 to 10 days, and featured headliners including Dave Attell, Bill Burr, Nicole Byer, Jimmy Carr, Margaret Cho, Tim Dillon, Giggly Squad, Ilana Glazer, Brett Goldstein, Nate Jackson, Anthony Jeselnik, Matteo Lane, Sam Morril, Nick Mullen and Adam Friedland, Conan O’Brien, Atsuko Okatsuka, Pod Meets World, Donnell Rawlings, Jeff Ross, Robyn Schall, Daniel Sloss, and Michelle Wolf, and the 17th annual Stand Up for Heroes
