Paul Trenier: A reason to visit Ellen's Stardust Diner

This past Thanksgiving, my family and I had the pleasure of meeting Paul Trenier, a singing server at Ellen's Stardust Diner in the heart of Times Square. He truly transformed our holiday into an unforgettable experience.

Like many New Yorkers, I've often observed the seemingly endless lines outside the diner. What I didn't realize then was that beyond its doors, the seasoned waitstaff don't just serve; they perform. Each member showcases incredible vocal talent while effortlessly serving classic dishes within the nostalgic ambiance of a '50s-themed eatery.

Being part of the food service industry is demanding on its own. Now, imagine this: these individuals not only serve but also perform, seamlessly merging these roles. It's a breathtaking spectacle of multitasking, where they deliver exceptional service while showcasing their extraordinary talent, creating a dining experience unlike any other.

Our server was the incredible singer, Paul Trenier, originally from Mobile, Alabama. He has spent the past seven years in New York, showcasing his talents as a singing server at Ellen's Stardust Diner between musical engagements. His musical expertise is undeniable, backed by a degree in music education from The University of Southern Mississippi and a master's from Oklahoma City University. Beyond his diner duties, he's been an influential music educator at various esteemed institutions across the city, including Bronx Charter School, East Harlem Tutorial Prep, and New York University.

Paul's vocal mastery extends far beyond the diner. He's a celebrated member of the Tony Award-winning and Grammy-nominated Broadway Inspirational Voices choir. His credits include performances at regional theaters nationwide in acclaimed productions such as Dreamgirls, Smokey Joe’s Cafe, and Les Miserables.

In a candid conversation, Paul shared his experiences working at Ellen's Stardust Diner, an establishment that remains open 365 days a year, including major holidays like Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve. He spoke passionately about the joy of entertaining guests, creating magical moments, and being part of a unique establishment that embodies the spirit of New York City.

AMSTERDAM NEWS: Paul Trenier, you made my Thanksgiving Day into a truly special occasion. You have an amazing voice! How did you land this gig at Ellen's Stardust Diner?
PAUL TRENIER: Thank you so much! I had just graduated from college and was moving to New York City. A friend of mine knew that actors often work as waitstaff, and since I love to sing, Ellen's Stardust Diner seemed like the perfect place for me to make money and pursue my passion.
AMN: Copy that but I was also impressed with your excellent waitering skills. Well, what really impressed me was your ability to seamlessly transition from singing on stage to waiting on tables. You never missed a beat!
PT: Thank you. I take pride in providing good service to my customers. Working here definitely pays the bills, which allows me to pursue my acting and singing aspirations. And I truly love my job.
AMN: I have a feeling you have a strong musical background.
PT: (laughs) Yes, I do. I have a master's degree in music education from The University of Southern Mississippi and another master's degree in music from Oklahoma City University. I also teach music, but my true passion is performing.
AMN: Will you be working Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Year's Eve?
PT: Yes, I will be working on those holidays.
AMN: Well, all of those future diners are in for a real treat at Ellen's Stardust Diner! Where can people follow you on social media?
PT: You can find me on Instagram at @paultrenier.
AMN: Thank you for your time, Paul. It was a pleasure speaking with you!
