Television and Radio host, Bevy Smith recently hosted a dinner honoring Lee Daniels' feature film The Deliverance in New York City. Director Daniels, Andra Day, Mo'Nique, Demi Singleton, and Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor attended. Notable guests included Sunny Hostin (Author, TV Host), Tamron Hall (Talk Show Host), Don Lemon (Media Personality), Kehinde Wiley (Artist), Jerrod Carmichael (Poor Things), Kara Young (I'm a Virgo), Nick Cannon ( TV Host), Jordan Cooper (Creator of Ms. Pat Show), Ari Melber (MSNBC Anchor).
The following evening, Daniels and the cast introduced an intimate screening followed by a Q&A with Daniels and moderated by Sunny Hostin (Author, and TV Host). Additional notable guests present were Angela Yee (Radio Personality), DeRay McKesson (Social Activist), Kelly Augustine (Fashion & Body Positivity Influencer), TJ Holmes (Media Host ), Amy Robach (Media Host), and Nick Cannon (TV Host).
The Deliverance is about Ebony Jackson (Day), a struggling single mother fighting her personal demons, who moves her family into a new home for a fresh start. But when strange occurrences inside the home raise the suspicions of Child Protective Services and threaten to tear the family apart, Ebony soon finds herself locked in a battle for her life and the souls of her children. The film is inspired by a true story.
Directed and produced by Daniels, the cast includes Day, Ellis-Taylor, Mo’Nique, Singleton, Anthony B. Jenkins, Miss Lawrence, and Tasha Smith, with Omar Epps, Caleb McLaughlin, and Glenn Close.
The rest of the producing team includes Tucker Tooley, Pamela Oas Williams, Jackson Nguyen, and Todd Crites.
The Deliverance will be released in select theaters on August 16 and on Netflix on August 30.
