Experience the Magic of TIFF’s Festival Street: A Celebration of Film, Art, and Culture

TIFF’s Festival Street is back for its ninth year, and it’s bigger and better than ever! This year, thousands of film fans will flock to King Street West between Peter Street and University Avenue for a four-day celebration of food, drinks, art, and culture. From September 5–8, the heart of Toronto will transform into a bustling hub of free entertainment and fun activations that you won’t want to miss.

Festival Street is open to everyone, offering a wide array of experiences for all ages. The festivities kick off on September 5 with the World Premiere of The Tragically Hip: No Dress Rehearsal, a four-part docu-series produced and directed by Mike Downie, brother of the iconic Gord Downie. This film dives deep into the legacy of The Tragically Hip, a band that has defined Canadian music for decades. To celebrate, Choir! Choir! Choir! will lead a massive sing-a-long from the Royal Alexandra Theatre onto Festival Street, marking 40 years of The Tragically Hip in a way that’s sure to be unforgettable. Fans are encouraged to join in this musical celebration at the Amazon Music Bus on John Street from 4:30pm–5:45pm.

From September 5–14, enjoy free open-air screenings of timeless classics, each with its own unique charm. Highlights include 40th-anniversary showings of Ghostbusters (September 11), Footloose (September 12), and The Karate Kid (September 13). The lineup also features fan favorites like Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story (September 5), Ghost (September 6), Gattaca (September 7), Arrival (September 8), Drumline (September 9), The Outsiders (September 10), and Pitch Perfect (September 14). Each film will be presented with open captions and screened nightly at 10pm, offering a perfect way to unwind under the stars.

In partnership with the Toronto Film School, the Festival Street Art Market will feature booths along Simcoe Street and King Street, showcasing the vibrant work of Toronto’s local film festivals and arts organizations. Discover initiatives, activities, and programming from participants like Inside Out Film Festival, Reel Asian Film Festival, imagineNATIVE, OCAD, Luminato Festival, Regent Park Film Festival, Muse Arts, Toronto Latin American Film Festival, REEL CANADA, and Workman Arts. It’s a fantastic opportunity to engage with the creative community and learn more about the diverse artistic landscape of Toronto.

This year, TIFF is introducing exciting new elements to Festival Street. Campari joins the festivities as the Official Cocktail of the TIFF Red Carpet, with their iconic Negroni adding a splash of sophistication. Stay refreshed with TIFF’s new Official Water, FLOW, and snap selfies with stars in the SHINGRIX fan zone at Roy Thomson Hall. Plus, the OVO x 1 LOVE T.O. pop-up will bring the soundtrack of Toronto to life, all while raising funds for TIFF’s Every Story Fund.

For those who enjoy a late-night thrill, don’t miss the Midnight Madness programme presented by Intrepid Travel. And if you’re in the mood for a culinary treat, Festival Street has you covered with plant-based BEYOND MEAT burgers and the decadent Ferrero Rocher® Golden Lounge.

Festival Street wouldn’t be possible without the tremendous support from Torontonians and the City of Toronto. As a gesture of gratitude, TIFF has partnered with the TTC to give residents more access to Festival films. On Saturday, September 14 at 3pm, head to Roy Thomson Hall for the TTC Free Screening of a surprise TIFF ’24 Festival title. Stay tuned for more details as the date approaches!
