Día de Muertos (Day of the Dead) - October 31st - Community Ofrenda and 7:30 Performance

While the performance is on October 31 at 7:30 pm, the ofrenda will be up at the David Rubenstein Atrium from the night of October 31 to November 3 during public hours.

Día de Muertos (Day of the Dead) is a Mexican cultural tradition representing a time to honor and revere deceased family members and ancestors. Join us in creating a community ofrenda ("offering") in collaboration with Mano a Mano: Mexican Culture Without Borders by bringing copies of photographs, notes, and letters to honor your loved ones throughout this celebration. The night will feature a performance by Jarana Beat, an award-winning world music band based in New York City that has created an authentic sound, blending folkloric Mexican Afro music with contemporary ideas.

The band performs original music with a variety of traditional instruments (jaranas, leonas, ayoyote shells, and donkey jawbones) alongside dancers who interweave percussive footwork into the rhythms. Jarana Beat is presented in collaboration with the México Now Festival, New York City’s first and only independent festival spotlighting contemporary Mexican art and culture.

You are welcome to bring PICTURES to be a part of the ofrenda. These should be copies, not originals, as they will not be returned. The ofrenda will be up in the David Rubenstein Atrium from the night of October 31 to November 3 during public hours. They are unfortunately unable to accept food, candles, or incense for the ofrenda.
