The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures marked its fourth anniversary with a spectacular gala this weekend in Los Angeles, which was on-par with the glamour of the Oscars. Hollywood’s brightest stars, directors, producers, and executives gathered for an unforgettable evening, transforming the museum into a dazzling celebration of cinema.
The evening was co-chaired by an impressive lineup of luminaries, including Tyler Perry, Dr. Eric Esrailian, Salma Hayek Pinault, Nicole Kidman, and Eva Longoria.
The gala honored three remarkable figures whose contributions to film have left an indelible mark.
Rita Moreno, the Oscar-winning actress, singer, and dancer, received the prestigious Icon Award for her significant global cultural impact. Paul Mescal, an Oscar-nominated actor, was presented with the Vantage Award, recognizing his role as an emerging artist challenging dominant narratives in cinema. Quentin Tarantino, a two-time Oscar-winning director and writer, was bestowed with the Luminary Award for his groundbreaking contributions that have expanded creative possibilities in filmmaking.
Hollywood stars graced the event from Awkwafina, Zendaya, Selena Gomez, Gal Gadot, Dwyane Wade, Olivia Wilde, Ariana Grande, and Demi Moore to Jessica Biel, Nia Vardalos, Kerry Washington, Kumail Nanjiani, Quinta Brunson, Taraji P. Henson, Colman Domingo, Regé-Jean Page, Ava DuVernay, Cooper Koch, and many more. The mood was electric yet elegant as laughter and conversation filled the air and attendees mingled and celebrated their shared love for film.
The warmth of the evening was best reflected by Perry himself - having had the pleasure of meeting him twice - his friendly demeanor and genuine passion for uplifting others in the industry, was the tone that resonated throughout the night.
Grammy-winning singer Cynthia Erivo closed the evening with a surprise, power-packed performance that mesmerized guests, singing classics from "The Color Purple" and "The Wizard of Oz."
Beyond the glitz and glamour, this anniversary gala raised over $11 million to support vital museum initiatives. Funds will go towards exhibitions, educational programs, and community outreach efforts aimed at making cinema accessible to all.
