Ted Danson Named 2025 Carol Burnett Award Honoree by Golden Globes®

The Golden Globes® announced today that 13-time nominee and three-time winner Ted Danson will receive the prestigious Carol Burnett Award for 2025. Danson’s career spans decades, with Golden Globes for Something About Amelia (1985) and Cheers (1990 and 1991).

Created in 2019, the Carol Burnett Award honors individuals whose work has had a lasting impact on television. Past recipients include Norman Lear, Ryan Murphy, and Ellen DeGeneres. “Ted Danson’s iconic career and remarkable versatility as an actor have made a profound impact on television history,” said Helen Hoehne, President of the Golden Globes. “He truly embodies the spirit of the award’s legendary namesake.”

Danson is best known for his role as Sam Malone on Cheers, which ran for 11 seasons and won four Emmys. Recently, he starred in Curb Your Enthusiasm and The Good Place, the latter earning him his 14th Emmy nomination. His upcoming projects include the Netflix comedy A Man on the Inside. Danson is also an environmental activist and co-founder of the American Oceans Campaign.

Danson, alongside 2025 Cecil B. DeMille Award recipient Viola Davis, will be honored at a special gala dinner on January 3, 2025, at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. The 82nd Annual Golden Globes® will air on January 5, 2025, on CBS and Paramount+.
