Broadway’s Crown Jewel Takes a Bow
The groundbreaking Broadway production of Stereophonic is entering its final week at the Golden Theatre, marking the end of a monumental chapter in theater history. After earning a record 13 Tony nominations and securing 5 wins—including Best Play—David Adjmi’s electrifying story about the rise and unraveling of a 1970s rock band has captivated audiences since its debut.
Directed by Tony winner Daniel Aukin and featuring music by Grammy Award winner Will Butler, the play has wowed sold-out audiences for an impressive 305 performances. The cast, including standout performances by Benjamin Anthony Anderson, Will Brill, and Rebecca Naomi Jones, has been praised for bringing to life the music industry's raw creative process and emotional highs and lows.
Originally planned for a 14-week engagement, Stereophonic was extended twice due to overwhelming demand, officially recouping its Broadway investment—a rare achievement for any production. As the curtain closes on January 12, 2025, the legacy of Stereophonic is far from over.
The Next Act: From Broadway to the World
Following its Broadway success, Stereophonic is set to make its mark globally. In May 2025, the play will open at London’s Duke of York’s Theatre in the West End, produced by Sonia Friedman Productions and other Broadway powerhouses. Later in the year, a U.S. national tour kicks off at Seattle’s Paramount Theatre in October, bringing this cultural phenomenon to audiences nationwide.
Additionally, Concord Theatricals has secured exclusive licensing rights for the play, ensuring its continued legacy on stages worldwide.

Behind the Curtain: The Story and the Team
Set in a 1976 music studio, Stereophonic immerses audiences in the tension and triumph of a rock band teetering between a breakthrough and a breakup. Playwright David Adjmi masterfully captures the creative chaos. At the same time, a stellar design team, including David Zinn (scenic design) and Ryan Rumery (sound design), enhances the play’s fly-on-the-wall intimacy.
Since its premiere at Playwrights Horizons in 2023, Stereophonic has grown into a theatrical sensation, celebrated for its innovative storytelling and unforgettable performances. The original cast recording, released by Sony Masterworks Broadway, ensures that fans can relive the music that helped define this historic production.
