Daniel Breaker steps into the role of Hermes, while Merle Dandridge returns as Persephone in the Tony and Grammy Award-winning musical, beginning February 18, 2025.

Broadway fans, mark your calendars! Hadestown, the Tony and Grammy Award-winning musical that has captivated audiences for nearly five years at the Walter Kerr Theatre, is about to welcome two exceptional talents to its already stellar cast. Producers Mara Isaacs, Dale Franzen, Hunter Arnold, and Tom Kirdahy have announced that Tony Award nominee Daniel Breaker and SAG and Grammy Award nominee Merle Dandridge will join the production starting February 18, 2025.

Daniel Breaker, renowned for his standout performances in Hamilton, Shrek: The Musical, and Passing Strange (for which he earned a Tony nomination), will take on the role of Hermes, the witty and enigmatic guide to the underworld. Breaker’s extensive career spans Broadway, television (Billions, Girls 5Eva), and film, making him a dynamic addition to the cast.

Merle Dandridge, a force in both theater and television, will return to Broadway as Persephone, Queen of the Underworld. Fans will recognize Dandridge from her roles on HBO’s The Last of Us, ABC’s Station 19, and Oprah Winfrey’s Greenleaf, where she played the lead role of Grace Greenleaf. Her Broadway credits include unforgettable performances in Aida, Rent, Spamalot, and Once on This Island. Dandridge’s return to Hadestown is a full-circle moment for the actor, who previously played Persephone and earned critical acclaim for her portrayal of the fiery and complex character.

Breaker and Dandridge will succeed Lillias White and Allison Russell, who will give their final performances on February 16, 2025. The new cast members join an already remarkable lineup, including Jordan Fisher as Orpheus, Phillip Boykin as Hades, and Maia Reficco as Eurydice. Beginning January 14, 2025, Hailey Kilgore, Carlos Valdes, and Tom Hewitt will take over the roles of Eurydice, Orpheus, and Hades, respectively, further adding to the excitement surrounding the production.

Hadestown, created by Anaïs Mitchell and directed by Rachel Chavkin, reimagines the ancient Greek myths of Orpheus, Eurydice, and Hades and Persephone. Set to a genre-defying score that blends American folk music with New Orleans-inspired jazz, the musical explores love, sacrifice, and hope in the face of despair. The production has been hailed as a masterpiece, earning the Tony Award for Best Musical and a Grammy for Best Musical Theater Album.

The show is enjoying international success, with productions in London, Australia, and Amsterdam slated to open in Spring 2025. The North American tour recently concluded a three-year run, cementing Hadestown as a global phenomenon.

Tickets for Hadestown are available at the Walter Kerr Theatre box office and on SeatGeek. Don’t miss the opportunity to see Daniel Breaker and Merle Dandridge breathe new life into this critically acclaimed musical starting February 18, 2025.
