Broadway’s ROMEO + JULIET Makes History, Recoups $7M and Draws Record-Breaking Young Audiences

Seaview is proud to announce that Sam Gold’s groundbreaking, record-shattering production of ROMEO + JULIET has officially recouped its $7 million capitalization after an extended, sold-out 20-week run at Broadway’s Circle in the Square Theatre.

Starring Emmy Award winner Kit Connor (Heartstopper) and Golden Globe Award winner Rachel Zegler (West Side Story), this electrifying reimagining of Shakespeare’s timeless love story didn’t just sell out every performance—it redefined who gets a seat at Broadway’s table. A staggering 14% of ticket buyers were between the ages of 18-24, an unprecedented number compared to the industry’s usual 3%, proving that a new generation of theatergoers has arrived.

Not only did ROMEO + JULIET become the highest-grossing limited engagement in Circle in the Square history, but it also shattered the theater’s single-performance gross record—three times.

A Star-Studded, Genre-Defying Production

Bringing Shakespeare’s tragedy to life was a powerhouse ensemble, including:

  • Kit Connor (Romeo)
  • Rachel Zegler (Juliet)
  • Gabby Beans (Mercutio/The Friar/Prince)
  • Tommy Dorfman (Tybalt/The Nurse)
  • Gían Pérez (Samson/Paris/Peter)
  • Daniel Bravo Hernández, Jasai Chase-Owens, Nihar Duvvuri, Sola Fadiran, Taheen Modak, and a stellar supporting cast.

Directed by Tony Award winner Sam Gold (An Enemy of the People), the production featured music by Grammy winner Jack Antonoff and choreography by Tony winner Sonya Tayeh (Moulin Rouge!), blending bold theatricality with a modern, electric pulse.

Design elements were just as striking, with:
🎭 Scenic design by Tony nominee dots
🎭 Costumes by Tony nominee Enver Chakartash
🎭 Lighting by Tony nominee Isabella Byrd
🎭 Sound by Tony winner Cody Spencer

From hair and makeup to fight choreography, every detail contributed to a production that felt immediate, visceral, and unlike any Romeo & Juliet before it.

A Cultural Phenomenon

Beyond Broadway, ROMEO + JULIET took over pop culture. The production graced the covers of Teen Vogue, Cosmopolitan, The New York Times, and Variety. Kit Connor, Rachel Zegler, and Jack Antonoff made waves with appearances on The Tonight Show, Late Night with Seth Meyers, The Today Show, CBS Mornings, and an unforgettable performance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

Adding to the musical legacy, Antonoff and Zegler released Man of the House, a track written alongside Ryan Beatty and released on Antonoff’s label, Shadow of the City. This marked Antonoff’s Broadway songwriting debut, further cementing the show’s impact beyond the stage.

The ROMEO + JULIET Effect

Left to their own devices in a world of violent ends, two impulsive lovers crash toward destiny in a production that pulses with urgency, heartbreak, and electrifying performances.

This ROMEO + JULIET wasn’t just a show—it was an event. A moment in Broadway history. And for thousands of first-time theatergoers, it was the beginning of a lifelong love affair with the stage.

Missed it? Stay tuned. The legacy of ROMEO + JULIET is just beginning.
