An Iconic Night on Broadway: Real Women Have Curves: The Musical Welcomes a Powerhouse Latina Audience

On April 22, Real Women Have Curves: The Musical hosted an unforgettable night, drawing an iconic gathering of Latina powerhouses to the James Earl Jones Theatre to support the show’s Broadway run.

The evening’s special guests were Eva Longoria, Sofia Vergara, Ana Navarro, Gina Torres, Roselyn Sánchez, Jeanine Mason, Lisa Vidal, Gloria Calderón Kellett, Elsa Collins, and more. The cast received a standing ovation, and the stars joined the curtain call onstage, delivering heartfelt congratulations to the team behind this moving, music-filled production.

Following the performance, eight-time Grammy Award winner Gloria Estefan and the musical’s co-composer Joy Huerta (of Jesse & Joy) shared an intimate post-show conversation. Moderated by MSNBC’s Alicia Menendez, the talkback explored how pop music translates to Broadway, the challenges and joys of creative adaptation, and the urgency of centering women’s stories, especially those that reflect Latinx communities.

A Story That Soars with Heart and Humor

Now in previews, with opening night set for April 27, Real Women Have Curves: The Musical is already capturing hearts. Based on Josefina López’s groundbreaking play (which inspired the hit HBO film), the musical is set in East Los Angeles, summer 1987, and follows Ana García, a high school senior with dreams far beyond her family’s dress factory.

When a large order threatens to unravel or unite the women in her life, Ana must navigate ambition, identity, and love, while balancing her mother’s expectations and her community’s hopes. The result is a funny, heartfelt, and unapologetically empowering musical about womanhood, self-worth, and what it means to dream big.
