At Kokomo, Friendsgiving Gets a Caribbean Remix

At Kokomo, the Caribbean-inspired restaurant that has become a fixture of Brooklyn’s dining scene, Thanksgiving takes on a different shape. This year, the restaurant is introducing a Friendsgiving menu that folds holiday traditions into a mix of island flavors, French technique, and touches of Asian craft. The menu will be served from 4 p.m. to close on select evenings — Nov. 17, 19, 20, 24, and 26 — with a one-day-only Friendsgiving brunch on Friday, Nov. 28.

Founded by the husband-and-wife team Ria and Kevol Graham, Kokomo has built a following for its lush interior, atmospheric dining room, and a kitchen that treats Caribbean cooking as both memory and canvas. Here, cocktails arrive as sculptural centerpieces, and plates lean into bold flavors expressed with precision.

The Friendsgiving menu, developed by Kevol Graham and the restaurant’s culinary team, reimagines familiar holiday dishes through an island lens. Braised oxtail appears with a cassareep pumpkin purée and a glossy oxtail gravy. A Scotch bonnet lobster bisque is paired with boiled dumplings and cho cho. The sofrito roast chicken comes dressed with a cranberry–sorrel sauce and coco bread stuffing, while a curry lamb shank arrives beside breadfruit mash and a warm curry sauce.

Side dishes reflect a broader sweep of Caribbean and diasporic cooking: Haitian diri djon djon (black mushroom rice), breadfruit mash, coco bread stuffing, a four-cheese baked macaroni and cheese, braised cabbage with thyme and butter, roasted Brussels sprouts, and the restaurant’s much-loved fried sweet plantains.

The Friendsgiving brunch on Nov. 28 leans into comfort with a Caribbean twist. Pumpkin pancakes are finished with guava butter, warm syrup, and eggnog whipped cream. A Guinness cornbread French toast is served with Baileys cream and fried chicken.

“For us, Friendsgiving is about connection,” Ria and Kevol Graham said in a joint statement. “Caribbean food brings people together, and this menu blends our roots with the traditions people look forward to every year.”

Kokomo was recently listed among Time Out New York’s 50 Best Restaurants, recognition that reflects its growing influence in reimagining Caribbean cuisine for a wide audience. The restaurant also offers flexible spaces suited to private dinners, corporate gatherings, and family celebrations.

The Friendsgiving menu will be served Nov. 17, 19, 20, 24, and 26 from 4 p.m. to close, with the Friendsgiving brunch on Nov. 28.
