| The Oscar®-qualified short film "LARGO" |
The Oscar®-qualified short film "LARGO" tells the deeply moving story of Musa, a ten-year-old Syrian refugee in foster care in the UK who builds a boat to sail home in search of his missing parents.
The film explores powerful themes of displacement, grief, resilience, and hope, all seen through the perspective of a child.
Unlike many films that focus on arrival and assimilation, "LARGO" centers on Musa's desperate attempt to return “home” — a home that no longer exists, emphasizing the emotional complexity of displacement.
The film also highlights empathy through Musa’s imaginative and hopeful outlook despite the harsh realities he faces as a refugee.
"LARGO" is praised for balancing emotional depth without slipping into sentimentality, making it impactful for audiences by showing the refugee crisis from a child’s eyes.
Its story is enriched by guidance from the Refugee Council and the support of Good Chance Theatre, as well as a commitment to authenticity and social impact through initiatives like a paid apprenticeship program for displaced creatives.
