Elaine Welteroth, Social Activist and former Editor in Chief of Teen Vogue talked about career, social change at New York Times’s College Events Series as part of the The New York Times’s Get With The Times series. The talk was moderated by New York Times gender editor, Jessica Bennett.

The evening was hosted, in New York, at the The New York Times Building, where Welteroth discussed her tenure as the youngest person and the second African-American ever to hold the editor in chief title in Condé Nast’s 107-year history. She shared how she broke into the journalism industry, the importance of mentorship, and she shared her advice for aspiring journalists, activists, and change agents. Students from 50 watch parties set up on other campuses across the country tuned in and asked questions throughout the night.
Get With The Times is a new live conversation program series which gives college students the opportunity to learn more about —and have dialogue around—the national issues that affect them most. Last month, actress Samira Wiley spoke to students at Columbia University about how she’s recently become a role model for young people around the world, championing the rights and safety of the LGBTQ community and people of color.

Previous GWTT events can be viewed with videos of Samira Wiley, Chelsea Handler, Trevor Noah and Leslie Odom, Jr.
