A summer must read, and a great selection for a Mother's Day Gift, Children of Blood and Bone by Nigerian author Tomi Adeyemi.  At only 23 Adeyemi is making a name for herself with her stunning debut novel which weaves a tale of magic, honor, and courage in the face of ignorance and bloodshed.

Children of Blood and Bone is the first installment of a
a trilogy set in Africa about magic and the resurrection of the Orishan gods and their celestial gifts being restored to the people.

It’s a page-turner and one of the key reasons — as reported in Deadline in an exclusive story—that Fox 2000 made a preemptive acquisition of the first installment of the fantasy novel.

The lead character in Children of Blood and Bone is Zelie Adebola, a young woman who was brutally robbed of her magical birthright in the kingdom of Orisha by a bloodthirsty and mad ruler.  In a twist of fate orchestrated by the Gods', she is charged with the task of restoring those powers to her land.

In the adventure to restore all magic, she travels through dangerous mountains and tangled, and dark forests of her homeland in search of the talismans to unleash and cement magic's power back into the world. She's accompanied by young royals Amari and Inan, and Tzain,  Zélie’s very protective brother.

Adeyemi is a creative writing coach, who graduated from Harvard before receiving a fellowship to study West African mythology and culture in Salvador, Brazil.
