Musicians Yolanda Adams, John Legend, T.I., and Domani & Lil'c received nominations for Best Orginal Score (music and/or lyrics) for the massively successful production of Spongebob Squarepants: The Musical which has 11 nominations.
In the musical category Ariana Debose ("Summer: The Donna Summer Musical") was honored in the Best Performance by an Actress in a featured role in a musical category, and LaChanze ("Summer: The Donna Summer Musical"), Hailey Kilgore ("Once on this Island"), received nominations for Best Performances by an actress in a leading role in a musical Joshua Henry received a Best Performance by an Actor in a Play Leading Role in a Musical for his role in "Rodgers & Hammerstein's Carousel."
A few predictions regarding 2018 include “The Band’s Visit” (best musical), “My Fair Lady” (best revival of a musical), Glenda Jackson in “Three Tall Women” (best actress in a play), Denzel Washington in “The Iceman Cometh” (best actor in a play) and Nathan Lane in “Angels in America” (best featured actor in a play).
George C. Wolfe (“The Iceman Cometh”) should win for best director of a play, but the Tony is likely to go to John Tiffany (“Harry Potter”) instead.
