The Next Generation: Project Involve

Welcomes 30 New Fellows for 2019: Part One

The Indie Spirit Awards are days away so stay tuned as we bring you all the fun, the day of the event, Saturday, Feb 24th. In the meantime, we wanted to introduce you to some of the new fellows under  Project Involve, Film Independent’s signature mentorship and diversity program, now in its 26th year. 2018 saw the longrunning Artist Development program hit its silver anniversary—check out their Instagram for special shout-outs from some of their favorite PI Fellows of yesteryear, an illustrious group that includes names such as Effie T. Brown, Jon M. Chu, Justin Simien and more.

Let's meet ... The Next Generation: Project Involve ...Part 1

Adanne Ebo (Producer)

Q:       What's your passion? What's the big dream for your career?

AE:     My passion is putting together creative projects that challenge and entertain people. My big dream for my career is to make the "producer" title as revered as the "actor," "writer," and "director" titles.

Q:        How is Project Involve helping you?

AE:     Project Involve is helping me hone my skills and push forward my career practically and professionally.

Q:        What's the best advice, to date, that you've received?

AE:      Respect each facet of the filmmaking process--from development through post-production.

Q:        I am an _______ because________?

AE:     I am a filmmaker because I believe in making my mark in every step of the process--from development through post-production.

Alicia Carroll (Writer)

Q:      What's your passion? What's the big dream for your career?

AC:    The dream is to run my own show, and have a production company where I can create and support the visions of other filmmakers as well. Creating new characters that reflect people or facets of society that aren't typically explored is what keeps me going. I aim to satisfy my younger self who always wanted to see girls like her on television and in films.

Q:       How is Project Involve helping you?

AC:    The community of creators at Project Involve have been immensely helpful to collaborate with and learn from, story-wise. The master classes have been eye-opening, getting to learn from writers and filmmakers to learn the interdisciplinary art of filmmaking, all while improving on our craft as writers (in the writer track, that is).

Q:        What's the best advice, to date, that you've received?

AC:      Your best today isn't your best yesterday, and it's not your best tomorrow.

Q:        I am an _______ because________?

AC:     I am a storyteller because it's the oldest art form, the oldest window to humanity, and the oldest form of human connection. It's the way to open your neighbor's eyes and awaken something within yourself. Stories are the center of everything

.

Apoorva Charan (Producer)

Q:      What's your passion? What's the big dream for your career?

AC:    My passion is to bring compelling stories that showcase the nuances in Asian & Asian American experiences to the screen. As a producer, I eventually want to be in a position to help younger filmmakers with unique POVs bring their stories to life.

Q:        How is Project Involve helping you?

AC:      I moved from NYC to LA. I came from a film school background so I felt like I had a lost a community of filmmakers & friends when I left. Because of Project Involve, I feel connected with the diverse filmmaking community in LA. I feel supported in my journey.

Q:        What's the best advice, to date, that you've received?

AC:      That we all have our own individual journeys. Don't look at whose ahead or behind you. Just focus on the WORK you are passionate about.

Q:        I am an _______ because________?

AC:     I am a storyteller because it's through stories that we understand human experiences that allow us to sympathize and hopefully, eventually bring change in the way we (countries & communities) treat each other & bring positive change and awareness.
