2019 ACADEMY INVITES 842 TO MEMBERSHIP. DIVERSITY IS STRONG!

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has extended invitations to 842 artists and executives to join the organization. All of those invited have distinguished themselves by their contributions to theatrical motion pictures.
The 2019 class is 50% women, 29% people of color, and represents 59 countries. Those who accept the invitations will be the only additions to the Academy’s membership in 2019. Six individuals have been invited to join the Academy by multiple branches. These individuals must select one branch upon accepting membership.
New members will be welcomed into the Academy at invitation-only receptions in the fall. There have been great strides in diversity and inclusion in all areas. In 2015 on 25% were women as compared to 2019 where women now represent 32%. In 2015 people of color only represented 8% compared to 2019 they now represent 16%. Ten branches invited more women than men, those branches are Casting Directors, Costume Designers, Directors, Documentary, Executives, MakeUp Artists, Marketing and Public Relations, Producers, Production Designer, and Writers.
