Still Here, at Sundance 2020 an AR+VR exploration

By Sunil Sadarangani.

Still Here, a new, immersive installation employs AR+VR to vividly explore pressing issues about incarceration and gentrification, through the story of a woman, who returns home after years in prison to a newly gentrified Harlem.

Creator Zahra Rasool helms the all-female team at Al Jazeera Contrast, which created the project, and she will be present along with several of the women from the Women’s Prison Association, who inspired this compelling narrative.

Lead Artist, Zahra Rasool_ Creator of Still Here

An emerging force in immersive journalism, 29-year-old Rasool worked closely with the formerly incarcerated women to empower them to tell their own stories and cultivated filmmaking and technological skills with members of the community to democratize and genuinely inform the filmmaking process.

Providing direct access to personal stories and voices that matter is a guiding principal for the digital storytelling studio, which earned Al Jazeera Digital its first Emmy nomination last year with another project produced with local talent, titled Yemen’s Skies of Terror.

Where: New Frontier at The Ray, 1768 Park Avenue, Park City
