Latina moms from across the country are using their enormous voting power to come together and make a promise to their children to #VoteLikeAMadre, a campaign launched today by a coalition of national organizations that aims to galvanize the power of Latina moms to encourage their community to register and get out to vote on or before November 3rd, prioritizing candidates that support climate action. Climate change is one of the top concerns for Latinos at the polls.

#VoteLikeAMadre kicks off on September 1st and will continue until Election Day.

Led by Latino Victory Project, #VoteLikeAMadre has the support of some of the most recognizable Latina moms across music, television, film, and business including Jessica Alba, Jordana Brewster, Salma Hayek, Joy Huerta, Eva Longoria Bastón, Jennifer Lopez, Desi Perkins, Zoe Saldana and Karla Souza, among others. They join Latina moms on launch day, who have committed to support the campaign by posting #VoteLikeAMadre’s PINKY PROMISE on social media. The PINKY PROMISE features videos and photos of moms and their children making a promise to fight climate change and challenging friends to do the same.

Jennifer Lopez is supporting #VoteLikeAMadre through a special campaign video, available here. The campaign is also supported by Chispa, Poder Latinx, Alianza For Progress, and New Florida Majority. For more information and to join #VoteLikeAMadre and make a PINKY PROMISE for your child, go to VoteLikeAMadre.com.

“We’re at a tipping point that requires bold action, and that means electing candidates who are fierce supporters of environmental protection laws and who vow to combat climate change,” said Nathalie Rayes, President and CEO of Latino Victory Project.  “As a mother, I want my two young boys to grow up on a planet where clean air and water are not valuable commodities, but abundant resources available in our natural environment. I urge my fellow madres, tías, abuelas, and madrinas to join our #VoteLikeAMadre campaign and pinky promise our children that we will use our madre superpower – the vote – to protect their planet and their future.”

#VoteLikeAMadre brings together Latina moms from across the country to rally their community to register to vote and to vote early, as well as on Election Day, November 3rd and to support candidates that are prioritizing critical climate initiatives. The Latino community has been among the hardest hit by the climate crisis, with nearly 1 out of 2 Latinos in the U.S. living in counties that frequently violate pollution standards, exacerbating asthma and other respiratory illnesses. Additionally, 55% of Latinos live in three states (TX, FL, AZ) that are already experiencing serious effects related to climate change, including severe drought, record-breaking heat, storm surges, and flooding. The Latino community, led by its moms, has the power to shift the course of the election.

“We can’t make long-lasting change in our communities unless we vote,” said Chispa’s National Director, Johana Vicente. “Voting isn’t just about picking a political preference; it’s about voting for clean air, clean water, and the sustainability of our planet. At Chispa we organize with Latinx communities to ensure that they know their vote is their power."

How Madres can join #VoteLikeAMadre:

1.     Make a PINKY PROMISE with your kids to fight climate change. Feel free to decorate your nail as a symbol of your promise.

2.     Post the PINKY PROMISE on social media channels and challenge your friends to do the same.

3.     Make a plan to register to vote and to vote on November 3 (or earlier depending on dates in your area).
