A new Schaller & Weber’s Oktoberfest this Friday, September 17!

German butcher shop Schaller & Weber is launching a new Schaller & Weber’s Oktoberfest this Friday, September 17! With beers on tap from Bavarian brewery Weihenstephan, there’s everything from traditional session-style festbier to specialty varieties to enjoy. Located behind Schaller’s Stube Sausage Bar on the Upper East Side, patrons are magically transported to Munich, with the open-air backyard emulating an authentic Oktoberfest beer garden. Open daily until the end of October, the pop-up provides a true taste of Oktoberfest celebrations!

An Austrian and German-inspired menu offers a range of appetizers including an iconic Oktoberfest Jumbo Pretzel served with Liptauer, spicy cheese spread, to Fried Camembert with lingonberries, and Käsespätzle. Goulash and Pumpkin soup provide warming bites for chilly fall weather and an obligatory Schaller & Weber Cheese and Charcuterie board pairs with any beverage.

For mains, there are options including a succulent one-pound Roasted Pork Shank, a Sausage Platter with Bier Brat, Weisswurst, and Bauernwurst, Roast Chicken with original Wiesn seasoning and roasted potatoes, and Veal Wiener Schnitzel served with potato salad, cucumber salad, and lingonberries. Desserts include Apple Rings with cinnamon sugar and vanilla sauce and Palatschinken, Austrian crepes served with apricot jam.

The original Oktoberfest is held annually in Munich, Germany as a two to three-week-long beer and folk festival - it's unfortunately canceled this year due to COVID, which makes local celebrations all the more important. Staying true to their German roots, Schaller & Weber is sourcing all Oktoberfest beer from Bavarian brewery Weihenstephan, the world’s oldest brewery. Their Festbier provides a traditional Oktoberfest brew, with a full, rich-bodied, and hoppy seasonal lager, served on tap in half and full-liter stein mugs. Weihenstephaner’s award-winning Wheat Beer, and bottled single-hop 1516 Kellerbier will also be available.

Traditional white and blue Bavarian flags hang overhead, while beer benches have been imported from Munich for seating. The party atmosphere will be set into full swing with live Bavarian music on select nights.

Operating as Blume in the summer and Hutte in the winter, the Austrian-inspired restaurant transforms with the season and is run by Jeremy Schaller, third-generation owner of Schaller & Weber. Located at 1652 Second Avenue (between 85th and 86th Streets), the hours will be 4 to 11pm Monday to Friday, and 11:30am to 11pm on weekends. Walk-ins are welcome and reservations can be made by calling 646-981-0764 or online on the restaurants OpenTable.
