We are proud to present Celebrating Alanis Obomsawin as the centrepiece of the 46th Toronto International Film Festival. Her voice as a filmmaker, musician, visual artist, and activist has been consistent. With more than 50 documentaries made with the National Film Board, her films show how Indigenous peoples have drawn on rich, deep traditions going back thousands of years to assert their presence as vital communities determined to continue on for thousands more years into the future. Her approach to crafting documentaries is as singular as Frederick Wiseman’s or Mike Leigh’s methods of making fiction films. "This remarkable artist has led by example, shining a path of generous empathy, of boundless curiosity about the human experience, and of righteous anger when that’s needed. We invite you to enter her world, and share it." Cameron Bailey Artistic Director & Co-Head, TIFF Alanis' latest film, Honour to Senator Murray Sinclair (2021), will have its World Premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. This film is part of the The Dignity of Children: Programme 2, showcasing Obomsawin’s long-time advocacy for the rights of Indigenous youth, beginning with her debut. This programme will become available on TIFF Digital Cinema Pro starting tomorrow at 10AM. Other programmes of the Celebrating Alanis Obomsawin series include Portraits: Programme 1, Portraits: Programme 2, The Dignity of Children: Programme 1, Lighting the Fire: Programme 1, and Lighting the Fire: Programme 2. Celebrating Alanis Obomsawin is co-presented by the National Film Board of Canada. @TIFF @AlanisObomsawin #Movies #TIFF Celebrating Alanis Obomsawin |
