THE ROAD TO OSCAR …

ACADEMY PRESENTS 2021 CAREERS IN FILM SUMMIT FOR

HIGH SCHOOL AND COLLEGE STUDENTS

The road to winning an Oscar begins with education. Plain and simple, knowledge is power.  It wasn’t too long ago (sadly) that the entertainment industry was a closed place for creative people of color.  It might not seem that way today with powerful creatives like Ava DuVernay, Charles King, Shaka King, Will Packer, Matthew A. Cherry, and Travon Free and Martin Desmond Roe (“Two Distant Stranger” - /https://bit.ly/2XQJdYi ) making their moves in the industry.  Clearly, it’s a wonderful change but it’s just the tip of the iceberg.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences understood that early education was important and that’s what makes their annual  Careers in Film Summit so exciting and the Saturday, October 30 — is free.

The virtual event, taking place from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. PST, will provide high school seniors and college students the opportunity to learn about careers in the motion picture industry from Academy members and other industry professionals.

Across three panels, attendees will learn about a variety of filmmaking crafts, including visual effects, production design, cinematography, editing, location management, script supervision, and more.  The event will kick off with an exploration of the recently released “Candyman” with members of the film’s cast and crew.

The program schedule is as follows:
