The 2022 Oscar nominations are out. And while the book cover is not splashed with much color, what with only the Best Actor and Best Supporting Actress categories being POC adorned, the inner pages have a good color balance.
Turning the pages, the stand-out category for me is Best Feature Documentary with all 5 nominated films having a person of color included in the nominated list. The feature documentary Writing with Fire is the first time a film from India has made it to the top 5 in this category.
Other stops I found exciting were Best Original Score - Germaine Franco for Encanto; Best International Feature - Drive My Car, Japan, and Lunana: A Yak in the Classroom, Bhutan; Best Live Action Short Film - Aneil Karia and Riz Ahmed for The Long Goodbye.
