Broadway Community Pays Tribute to Music Icon

The online Broadway community joins together to pay tribute to the late Tina Turner, the iconic music legend who passed away on May 24, 2023, at the age of 83. In commemoration of her remarkable life, on June 21, 2023, at exactly 7:00 PM, the lights at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre in New York, the former Broadway venue for the highly successful musical based on Ms. Turner's triumphant life story, will be dimmed for one minute.

Tina Turner's impact as a music artist and performer, her influence on fellow musicians, and her ability to inspire generations are unparalleled. Through her music and personal journey, Tina Turner touched and empowered countless individuals worldwide, teaching them to find inner strength. With a career spanning over five decades, the legendary rock performer remains one of the best-selling artists of all time. Initially rising to fame in the 1960s alongside her then-husband Ike Turner, they garnered acclaim for their electrifying live performances and impressive catalog of hits. Later, Tina Turner embarked on a successful solo career, highlighted by her 1984 album "Private Dancer," which earned her widespread recognition and three Grammy Awards. She continued to release chart-topping albums and singles, amassing an additional eight Grammy Awards and reportedly selling more concert tickets than any other solo artist in history. In recognition of her enduring contributions, Tina Turner was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame both as part of Ike & Tina Turner and as a solo artist.

As the executive producer of "TINA – THE TINA TURNER MUSICAL," Tina Turner played a pivotal role in its creation. The musical received 12 Tony Award nominations, including Best Musical. Following its world premiere in London's West End in 2018, where it received rave reviews and broke box office records at the Aldwych Theatre, the production has successfully run for five years. Since then, seven productions have been staged worldwide, including the North American Tour (2022), Australia (2023), two productions in Germany (Hamburg 2019 and Stuttgart 2023), the Netherlands (2020), Spain (2021), and other upcoming high-quality productions.

On Broadway, "TINA – THE TINA TURNER MUSICAL" was produced by Stage Entertainment, James L. Nederlander, Tali Pelman, and in collaboration with Tina Turner herself.
