Broadway's Mythic Tale Continues to Thrive with Stellar Cast Additions and Unveiling of First-Look Photos

Not everyone is ready to travel to "Hadestown" — only a brave few. But once they take the plunge and get the first glimpse of ‘Eurydice’ (now played by Solea Pfeiffer), you begin to understand just why the Tony and Grammy Award®-winning Best Musical continues to draw audiences and bring down the house. Pfeiffer made her debut on August 15, and joining her as the "new" players in the dynamic music are two notable names: Betty Who, an international pop sensation, and Tony and Grammy Award nominee Phillip Boykin in the roles of ‘Persephone’ and ‘Hades’, respectively, starting from September 5, 2023.

The current cast rocking Hadestown now includes the Grammy Award-winning Reeve Carney, who beautifully portrays Orpheus, and Tony Award winner Lillias White, embodying the essence of Hermes. These talents are skillfully accompanied by Amelia Cormack, Lindsey Hailes, and Brit West as the Fates, as well as an ensemble of exceptional performers.

As in life, when one flower blooms, another withers, and bidding farewell in this show are two esteemed cast members. Jewelle Blackman, who has brought vibrancy to the role of ‘Persephone’, and Tom Hewitt, the commanding ‘Hades’, will conclude their performances on Sunday, September 3, leaving an indelible mark on the production.

Hadestown's roots trace back to Anaïs Mitchell’s indie theater project that found its first footing in Vermont and later blossomed into an acclaimed album. Collaborating with artistic visionary Rachel Chavkin, Hadestown has evolved into a genre-defying marvel, interweaving modern American folk music with the soulful notes of New Orleans-inspired jazz, thus reinventing an age-old saga for modern audiences.

Step up. Take the plunge with Hadestown. Ticket information is available at www.seatgeek.com/hadestown-tickets or in person at the Walter Kerr Theatre box office, located at 219 West 48th Street.

Hadestown is a tapestry woven from two intertwining love stories. The tale of youthful dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice intertwines with the saga of King Hades and his wife Persephone, inviting theatergoers to embark on a profound expedition to the depths of the underworld and back. Anaïs Mitchell's bewitching melodies harmonize with Rachel Chavkin's poetic vision, summoning forth a battle between industry and nature, doubt and faith, and fear and love. The vibrant ensemble of actors, dancers, and singers delivers Hadestown's message with resonance, offering a defiantly hopeful and deeply moving theatrical experience.
