The first major awards show of the season wrapped up with a dazzling celebration of talent, and BIPOC winners were among the night's brightest stars. Emilia Pérez, a vibrant and deeply resonant film, emerged as a standout, winning four Golden Globes, including Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy and Best Non-English Language Picture.

Emilia Pérez herself, played by Karla Sofía Gascón, captivated audiences with her layered and dynamic performance, while Zoe Saldaña’s portrayal of a supporting character earned her the award for Best Supporting Actress. The film’s powerful original song, El Mal, claimed the Best Original Song award, further solidifying the movie's status as a cultural milestone.

Fernanda Torres delivered an emotional acceptance speech as she claimed Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama for her performance in I’m Still Here. Her role powerfully tackled themes of loss and self-discovery, resonating deeply with audiences worldwide.

In the television world, Shogun, a series steeped in Japanese history, swept all four of its nominations. Tadanobu Asano’s captivating performance as Best Supporting Actor showcased the depth and richness of global storytelling. Diego Luna, known for his stellar work in La Máquina, was also celebrated as a nominee for his nuanced performance.
