Roshan Sethi's gay romantic comedy, A Nice Indian Boy starring Karan Soni (Deadpool) and Jonathan Groff (Hamilton), is off to a good start at the indie box office.
In its debut weekend, the film grossed an estimated $176,000 on 81 screens, playing to sold-out shows across a mix of arthouse and commercial theaters.
Currently at a 97% critics and 96% audience score per Rotten Tomatoes, the film received good reviews from critics and audience alike with RogerEbert.com calling it a "wonderfully warm-hearted romance."
Along with Soni and Groff, the film also stars standup comedian Zarna Garg - her feature debut, veteran actor Harish Patel (Eternals), and Sunita Mani (Everything Everywhere All At Once).
A Nice Indian Boy tells the story of Naveen (Soni) who brings his fiancé Jay (Groff) home to meet his traditional Indian family who must contend with accepting his white-orphan-artist boyfriend and helping them plan the Indian wedding of their dreams.
In theaters nationwide, the film is written by Eric Randall (In the Dark), which is based on the play by Madhuri Shekar (3 Body Problem), and is distributed by Blue Harbor Entertainment and powered theatrically by Variance Films.
