Kerry Washington Honored at Atlanta Film Festival, Hosts Private ‘Shadow Force’ Screening with Real Housewives of Atlanta
Emmy Award-winning powerhouse Kerry Washington lit up Atlanta last weekend, making back-to-back appearances to celebrate her latest action-thriller Shadow Force with a mix of Hollywood prestige and Southern star power.
On Sunday, April 27, Washington was honored at the 49th annual Atlanta Film Festival with the 2025 Ossie Davis Award for Innovation in Filmmaking. The accolade, presented at the historic Plaza Theatre, recognized Washington’s dynamic work both in front of and behind the camera. Her performance in Shadow Force—a high-octane story of a mother fighting to protect her family—earned a standing ovation from a sold-out crowd.
The award was presented by Reasonable Doubt star Emayatzy Corinealdi, following a heartfelt introduction by festival programmer Astin Rocks. Shadow Force producers Stephen “Dr.” Love and Pilar Savone were also in attendance, joining Washington for a spirited post-screening Q&A moderated by V-103 radio host Jazzy McBee.
Washington kept the momentum going on Monday, April 28, stepping into the glitz and glamour of reality TV for a private screening hosted by the ladies of The Real Housewives of Atlanta. Held at AMC Madison Yards in East Atlanta, the invite-only event mixed Hollywood edge with Atlanta flair.
Washington mingled with Housewives royalty, including Shamea Morton, Brittany Eady, Angela Oakley, Drew Sidora, Cynthia Bailey, and Kelli Ferrell. Guests enjoyed a night of laughter, lively conversation, and plenty of celebratory snapshots, capped off by Washington’s candid reflections on the film’s message of strength, sacrifice, and Black excellence. Producer Pilar Savone was also on hand for the festivities.
Directed by Joe Carnahan (The Grey, Smokin’ Aces), Shadow Force follows two former elite operatives—played by Washington and co-star Omar Sy—who are forced to go off the grid to protect their child from a dangerous past. The film hits theaters nationwide on May 9, 2025.
