Black Theatre United Names Performers and Co-Chairs for Annual Gala
Black Theatre United has unveiled the lineup of performers and honorary co-chairs for its third annual gala, which will take place on Monday, Sept. 29, 2025, at the Ziegfeld Ballroom in Manhattan.
The evening, themed “United: Today & Beyond,” will honor producers Mathew Knowles, Gena Avery Knowles, Tonya Lewis Lee, and Lester Coney, as well as the director and choreographer Camille A. Brown, a five-time Tony Award nominee. Tom Viola, who recently retired as executive director of Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, will receive a Special Recognition Award.
Performances are set from Broadway figures including Shoshana Bean, Nick Daly, Kayla Davion, Darius De Haas, Jason Gotay, Kecia Lewis, Kristina Nicole Miller, Okieriete Onaodowan, Billy Porter, Sherie Rene Scott, Matt Rodin, Maya Sistruck, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Marty Thomas, Lillias White, and Anna Zavelson. The band will feature Joseph Joubert, Deah Love Harriott, Michael Olatuja, Ayodele Maakher, and Cory Rawls.
The roster of honorary co-chairs now includes Cynthia Erivo, LaTanya Richardson Jackson, and Shonda Rhimes, joining previously announced names such as Common, Ariana DeBose, Whoopi Goldberg, Josh Groban, Tamron Hall, Karine Jean-Pierre, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Al Roker and Deborah Roberts, and Sherri Shepherd. Julie Boardman is also a co-chair.
Black Theatre United, founded in 2020, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing access, equity, and representation in the American theater. Proceeds from the gala will support programs such as the BTU Rise Marketing and Press Internship, the Marva Hicks Musical Theatre Scholarship, and Broadway Bound, its educational program for aspiring performers.
