Calling All Corn Nuts: ‘Heathers The Musical’ Celebrates Fans with One-Night-Only ‘Big Fun Day’
New York City fans of Heathers The Musical—get ready to paint the town red. The cult hit musical, currently playing at New World Stages, will host BIG FUN DAY on Monday, September 1, 2025, at 7:00 p.m., bringing together the show’s most diehard fans for a night of singalongs, exclusive giveaways, and plenty of “candy store” energy.
The fan event is a thank-you to the global community known affectionately as the “Corn Nuts”—named after the final words of the show’s infamous Heather Chandler. Since its 2013 premiere, Heathers has become a cultural lightning bolt, with over 1,400 productions worldwide and a fandom that spans generations, platforms, and time zones.
A Night for the Fans
September’s Big Fun Day promises to go beyond a typical night at the theater. In addition to a special sing-along performance, ticket holders can expect themed surprises and a nod to the show’s offbeat humor and deep resonance with fans. With a new Broadway-caliber cast and updated score—heard in New York for the first time since its acclaimed 2018 West End run—this staging blends nostalgia with sharp new energy.
Tickets are available now at heathersthemusical.com and Telecharge.com.
Inside Westerberg High
Directed by Andy Fickman, the current production stars Tony nominee Lorna Courtney (& Juliet, Dear Evan Hansen) as Veronica Sawyer and Casey Likes (Almost Famous, Back to the Future) as the brooding J.D. The trio of Heathers is led by McKenzie Kurtz (Frozen) as Heather Chandler, Olivia Hardy (Kimberly Akimbo) as Heather Duke, and Elizabeth Teeter (Beetlejuice) as Heather McNamara.
Also featured are Tony nominee Kerry Butler (Hairspray, Beetlejuice), Erin Morton as Martha Dunnstock, and Xavier McKinnon (Wicked) as Ram Sweeney. Rounding out the cast are a new wave of talent, some discovered through open calls and even TikTok—including Cade Ostermeyer, Syd Sider, and others making their NYC stage debuts.
From Cult Classic to Cultural Touchstone
Based on the 1989 dark comedy film starring Winona Ryder and Christian Slater, Heathers The Musical is anything but a typical high school story. It explores popularity, power, and pain with biting satire, catchy anthems, and characters that walk the line between iconic and unhinged.
Underneath the dark comedy, however, lies a deep well of emotional truth—a raw look at teen angst, peer pressure, and the danger of letting popularity define your worth. It’s precisely this complexity that has helped Heathers endure and grow in meaning across generations.
The Team Behind the Madness
The musical features book, music, and lyrics by Kevin Murphy (Reefer Madness) and Laurence O’Keefe (Legally Blonde), with choreography by Gary Lloyd and music direction by Mona Seyed-Bolorforosh. Designers include David Shields (set and costume), Ben Cracknell (lighting), and Dan Samson (sound), with support from a robust backstage team ensuring every slushie and shoulder pad lands just right.
Heathers The Musical is currently scheduled to run through January 25, 2026, at New World Stages (340 West 50th Street).
So whether you’ve memorized every lyric or you’re just looking to relive your teen angst through high-volume harmony—September 1 is your day to shine. As Heather Chandler might say: You’ve got a date with destiny. Don’t blow it.
