Disney to Release Theatrical Cut of “Hamilton” in Celebration of Broadway Milestone
Walt Disney Studios announced today that a special theatrical version of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s revolutionary musical Hamilton will open nationwide on September 5, 2025, marking the 10th anniversary of its Broadway debut. The Emmy Award-winning filmed production—captured during its original run at the Richard Rodgers Theatre—will now be seen on the big screen for the first time, accompanied by exclusive new content and a once-in-a-decade reunion of its original cast.
Tickets are now available via Fandango and other outlets.
The theatrical release, titled Hamilton: Reuniting the Revolution, builds on the streaming version available on Disney+ with a newly created prologue featuring interviews with the original cast and creative team. The segment offers fresh reflections on the cultural, personal, and political impact the show has had since its explosive debut in 2015.
“When we filmed Hamilton, we wanted to capture the electricity of sitting in that theater during its first year,” said director and producer Thomas Kail. “Now, with this theatrical release, audiences can experience that feeling in a whole new way.”
To kick off the release, a special premiere screening will be held on September 3 at the newly renovated Delacorte Theater in Central Park, the longtime home of The Public Theater’s Free Shakespeare in the Park. The Public, which originally premiered Hamilton in its Off-Broadway run a decade ago, will offer a limited number of advance tickets beginning August 11 via donation, with a free ticket lottery and standby line available on the day of the event. All proceeds from the advance donations will benefit The Public Theater’s year-round programming.
The film will roll out internationally later this year: in the U.K. and Ireland on September 26, and in Australia and New Zealand on November 13.
Filmed over three days in June 2016 at the Richard Rodgers Theatre, the cinematic version of Hamilton captures the full live performance using a hybrid of stage and film techniques. The production stars Miranda as Alexander Hamilton, with a now-legendary cast including Leslie Odom Jr., Renée Elise Goldsberry, Daveed Diggs, Phillipa Soo, Jonathan Groff, and Christopher Jackson.
Directed by Kail and produced alongside Miranda and longtime collaborator Jeffrey Seller, the film was shot by RadicalMedia and executive produced by Sander Jacobs and Jill Furman. The musical itself—based on Ron Chernow’s biography of Alexander Hamilton—won 11 Tony Awards, a Pulitzer Prize for Drama, a Grammy Award, and was named an Olivier Award winner in London’s West End.
Combining hip-hop, jazz, R&B, and Broadway, Hamilton helped redefine what a modern musical can be—breaking attendance records and becoming a cultural and educational touchstone. Its narrative—“America then, told by America now”—has influenced everything from school curricula to presidential playlists.
The upcoming release also underscores the enduring partnership between Hamilton and The Public Theater, the nonprofit institution that first staged the musical in its intimate downtown home before it transferred to Broadway. The Delacorte premiere, hosted by The Public, reaffirms that bond.
Founded by Joe Papp and now led by Artistic Director Oskar Eustis and Executive Director Patrick Willingham, The Public continues to champion accessible theater across New York City’s five boroughs. Its productions—ranging from Hair to Hell’s Kitchen—have garnered hundreds of awards and helped shape the American theatrical canon.
Hamilton is currently represented on Broadway and continues to tour nationally and internationally.
