The Queen of Versailles

Outside the St. James Theatre on West 44th Street, Kristin Chenoweth stood before a crowd Tuesday morning and revealed the complete cast of The Queen of Versailles, one of Broadway’s most anticipated new musicals. Previews begin on October 8, with an official opening set for November 9.

Chenoweth, a Tony and Emmy Award winner, will headline the production, joined by the Oscar-winning actor F. Murray Abraham. The ensemble also features Melody Butiu (Here Lies Love), Stephen DeRosa (Hairspray), Greg Hildreth (Company), Tatum Grace Hopkins (Meek), Isabel Keating (The Boy From Oz), and Nina White (Kimberly Akimbo).

The full company includes Yeman Brown, David Aron Damane, Drew Elhamalawy, Christopher Gurr, KJ Hippensteel, Cassondra James, Andrew Kober, Jesse Kovarsky, Pablo David Laucerica, Travis Murad Leland, Ryah Nixon, Shea Renne, Michael McCorry Rose, Grace Slear, Anne Fraser Thomas, and Jake Bentley Young.

Directed by Michael Arden, with music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and a book by Lindsey Ferrentino, the musical is adapted from Lauren Greenfield’s 2012 documentary film about Jackie and David Siegel. The show traces Jackie’s rise from computer engineer to Mrs. Florida to the wife of the self-proclaimed “Timeshare King,” as the couple builds what they claim will be the largest private home in America: a $100 million mansion modeled after Versailles. Against the backdrop of the 2008 financial crisis, the work explores ambition, excess, and the cost of the American dream.

The production arrives on Broadway following a record-breaking run at Boston’s Emerson Colonial Theatre in the summer of 2024. Its design team includes Dane Laffrey (scenic and video), Christian Cowan (costumes), Natasha Katz (lighting), Peter Hylenski (sound), and Cookie Jordan (hair and wigs).

Producers include Bill Damaschke, Seaview, Sonia Friedman, and Chenoweth herself.

Tickets are available at queenofversaillesmusical.com, or in person at the St. James Theatre box office at 246 West 44th Street.

Updates and behind-the-scenes features can be found on the show’s Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, and Facebook pages.
