Sharing a note from the Sundance Film Festival team.  It was fun to read.

“Everyone has a story.”

That simple yet powerful message, shared with us last year by our founder Robert Redford, sums up the purpose of our work at Sundance Institute — ensuring that the voices of groundbreaking artists are heard and shared. Over the last four decades one of the ways we’ve directly embodied that mission is through our largest artist program: the Sundance Film Festival. And this year we’re honored to carry on that guiding spirit for all of the artists in this year’s unparalleled program.

From the very beginning, Mr. Redford believed that audiences were eager to engage with fiercely independent storytelling — risk-taking work that defies convention, creates new forms, and brings a world of perspectives to light.  For more than 40 years and counting, you’ve proven his vision right.

This year’s Festival is a celebration: of the hundreds of artists trusting us to debut their work to the world, our shared history in Park City, and the audiences who join us for the ride every January. These 11 days will be filled with delight, joy, discovery, and gratitude — as well as opportunities to revel in and reflect on some of the Festival’s most unforgettable moments while making new memories and connections.

What was true when independent film lovers converged on the streets of Park City back in 1985 rings even clearer today: There is something thrilling and profound about coming together to experience art that is brimming with emotion, depth, humor, surprise, authenticity, and revelation.

That’s the magic of the Sundance Film Festival. That’s the story we are writing together. Thank you.

Thank you to the hundreds of thousands of staff and volunteers who make it all possible, to everyone who has traveled from far and wide to be part of the Festival’s culmination in Park City, and to the community that has created a home for us on Main Street and beyond for so many years.

And a final note of gratitude to the artists showing work this year: Congratulations, and welcome to the Sundance Film Festival community. There is truly nothing like it.

Enjoy the Festival!
