“Galileo,” a New Musical About Truth, Power, and the Stars, to Open on Broadway
The cosmos is calling to Broadway.
Galileo, a new musical about the revolutionary scientist who turned his telescope skyward—and upended the world’s understanding of the universe—will premiere at the Shubert Theatre this fall. Preview performances begin November 10, with an opening night set for December 6, 2026.
The production reunites a team of acclaimed artists: the book is by Emmy-winning writer Danny Strong (Dopesick, Empire), with music and lyrics by Zoe Sarnak and Michael Weiner. Tony Award winner Michael Mayer directs, joined by choreographer David Neumann.
At its celestial center is four-time Tony nominee Raúl Esparza, returning to Broadway for the first time in over a decade to play the famed astronomer. Jeremy Kushnier and Tony nominee Joy Woods round out the principal cast, with additional casting to come.
Producers Amanda Lipitz, Henry Tisch, and Jordan Roth describe Galileo as “an electrifying and emotional exploration of the courage it takes to stand by truth.” Developed at Berkeley Repertory Theatre, the show charts Galileo’s clash with the most powerful religious authorities of his time—an echo, the creators note, that still feels “strikingly urgent” today.
