The most Tony Award-winning play of 2025, “Stranger Things: The First Shadow,” has announced its full Year 2 Broadway cast, proving Hawkins still has a powerful hold on the Marquis Theatre. Tickets start at $59.75 and are available at StrangerThingsBroadway.com, with performances at the Marquis Theatre (1535 Broadway).
Beginning Tuesday, March 31, Victor de Paula Rocha steps in as Henry Creel, joined by Ayana Cymone (Patty Newby), Shea Grant (Joyce Maldonado), Juan Carlos (Bob Newby), and Matthew Erick White (James Hopper, Jr.), alongside a large ensemble of Broadway newcomers and veterans, including Rosie Benton, Lia Christina, John Patrick Collins, Jennie Harney-Fleming, Ted Koch, Nick Rehberger, Afra Sophia Tully, and Francesca Yhlen, with John Zdrojeski as Dr. Brenner. Tony nominee Louis McCartney plays his final performance on Sunday, March 15, with Rocha and Ian Dolley sharing the role until March 31.
Rooted in the mythology of the Netflix phenomenon, the play—written by Kate Trefry from an original story by the Duffer Brothers, Jack Thorne, and Trefry, and directed by Stephen Daldry with co-direction by Justin Martin—tracks teenage Henry Creel in 1959 Hawkins as he confronts whether the monster is out there or inside him. With a cast of 34, it functions as a stand-alone thriller and an origin story for Vecna.
The production has become a critical and commercial juggernaut: four Tony Awards (including scenic, lighting, and sound design plus a Special Tony for illusions and technical effects), multiple Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle wins, and a record-breaking $2.51 million nine-performance week at the Marquis in December 2025. In London, the West End premiere at the Phoenix Theatre has been hailed as “The West End Event of the Year,” collecting Olivier, Critics’ Circle, and WhatsOnStage awards.
The creative team reads like a who’s who of stagecraft: set design by Miriam Buether, costumes by Brigitte Reiffenstuel, lighting by Jon Clark, sound by Paul Arditti, music and supervision by D.J. Walde, illusions and visual effects by Jamie Harrison & Chris Fisher, video by 59, choreography by Coral Messam, and more. Produced by Netflix and Sonia Friedman Productions, with the Duffer Brothers as creative producers and 21 Laps Entertainment as associate producer, “The First Shadow” blends prestige theatre with franchise storytelling.
Access remains fan-friendly: $40 same-day rush tickets at the Marquis box office, plus a $45 digital lottery (including fees) via
