The Warning, Carín León Bridge Rock, Country and Música Mexicana on “Love To Be Loved”

Just in time for Valentine’s Day, the rock sister-trio from Monterrey, Mexico, The Warning, is stress‑testing the idea of what a Mexican crossover record can sound like when it refuses to choose a lane.

Their new single “Love To Be Loved” pairs the band’s serrated guitars with the gravel-and-honey voice of regional Mexican superstar Carín León, and then does something quietly radical: it has León sing entirely in English, a first for the award‑winning star and a move that treats language not as a border but as another instrument to bend.

Built with co-writers including vocal powerhouse Teddy Swims and producers Rob Grimaldi and Anton DeLost, “Love To Be Loved” leans into a country‑rock‑pop hybrid that feels less like a genre experiment and more like a crowded border town bar where every influence gets a seat.

León opens the track in wounded balladeer mode, his verse floating over The Warning’s distorted power chords and thick, almost grunge‑adjacent rhythm section, before vocalist and guitarist Dany Villarreal detonates the chorus — “I just need love to be loved, to be loved, to be loved — by you” — as if it were written to ricochet between festival stages and heartbreak playlists alike
