The Broadway production of “Giant,” the Olivier Award-winning play starring John Lithgow as Roald Dahl, has recouped its $5.6 million capitalization just 10 weeks into a 16-week limited engagement, producers announced.

The play, now running at the Music Box Theatre through June 28, has become the highest-grossing new play of the 2025-26 Broadway season, a notable mark for a serious drama playing seven performances a week through much of its run.

Written by Mark Rosenblatt and directed by Nicholas Hytner, “Giant” arrives on Broadway after an acclaimed West End run and three Olivier Awards. The Broadway production is nominated for four Tony Awards: best play, best direction of a play for Hytner, best leading actor in a play for Lithgow, and best featured actress in a play for Aya Cash.

At the center of “Giant” is Dahl, the world-famous children’s author whose public image is thrown into question after a scandal. The play follows a battle of wills around reputation, accountability, and the cost of trying to make amends when the damage has already been done.

Lithgow leads the cast, joined by Cash, Elliot Levey, Rachael Stirling, Stella Everett, and David Manis. The creative team includes scenic and costume designer Bob Crowley, lighting designer Anna Watson, sound designer Darron L West, and wig, hair, and makeup designer Campbell Young Associates.

A filmed version of the London production, featuring Lithgow, Cash, Levey, and Stirling, will be released in more than 900 cinemas in 18 countries beginning Nov. 19. Tickets for the cinema release go on sale July 9.

Tickets for the Broadway production are available through Telecharge and at the Music Box Theatre box office.
