Taraji P. Henson Is Getting Her Place on the Wall at Sardi’s

The Oscar-nominated star will receive the famed Broadway portrait honor as she makes her Broadway debut in Debbie Allen’s revival of August Wilson’s “Joe Turner’s Come and Gone.”

Taraji P. Henson has conquered film, television, awards season, red carpets, and the internet’s collective heart. Now Broadway is making it official: she is going on the wall.

Producer Brian Anthony Moreland announced that Henson, the Golden Globe-winning and Academy Award-nominated star, will receive a famed Sardi’s portrait on June 23, 2026, in celebration of her Broadway debut in August Wilson’s “Joe Turner’s Come and Gone.” The unveiling will carry an extra bit of theater-world history: it will be the final Sardi’s portrait reveal under the proprietorship of Max Klimavicius.

Henson stars as Bertha Holly opposite Cedric “The Entertainer” as Seth Holly in the Debbie Allen-directed revival, now playing a limited engagement at the Barrymore Theatre through July 26, 2026. The cast also includes Ruben Santiago-Hudson, Joshua Boone, Abigail Onwunali, Bradley Stryker, Tripp Taylor, Nimene Sierra Wureh, and more.

Set in 1911 Pittsburgh, Wilson’s play unfolds inside a boarding house serving Black travelers during the Great Migration, where questions of identity, memory, trauma, and renewal arrive at the door with the force of destiny.

It is the second play in Wilson’s landmark American Century Cycle, and in Allen’s revival, it arrives with a cast that understands the assignment: reverence, electricity, and just enough star power to make the Barrymore glow.

Tickets are available through Telecharge and at the Barrymore Theatre box office.
