'Purple Rain' Broadway Musical Announces 2027 Dates, Ticket Pre-Sale

Prince’s Purple Rain is coming to Broadway in 2027, with performances beginning March 12 at the Majestic Theatre.

Producer Orin Wolf has announced ticket details for the highly anticipated Broadway musical adaptation of PURPLE RAIN, based on Prince’s Grammy-winning album and Oscar-winning 1984 film.

An exclusive fan pre-sale begins Tuesday, September 22 at 12 p.m. ET for those who sign up through the official Purple Rain Broadway website. The pre-sale runs through 11:59 a.m. on Thursday, September 24.

Tickets will go on sale to the general public on Thursday, September 24 at 12 p.m. ET via Telecharge, by phone at 212-239-6200, or through the official Purple Rain website.

PURPLE RAIN will begin previews on Friday, March 12, 2027, and officially open on Monday, April 12, 2027, at Broadway’s Majestic Theatre, located at 245 West 44th Street. Casting will be announced later.

The new musical features more than 20 Prince songs, including “When Doves Cry,” “I Would Die 4 U,” “Take Me With U,” and “The Beautiful Ones.” Set in 1984 Minneapolis, the story follows The Kid, a magnetic young musician whose drive for stardom collides with personal turmoil, creative rivalry, and a turbulent past.

The production is directed by Tony Award nominee Saheem Ali (Buena Vista Social Club), with a book by Peter Duchan (Dogfight). Tony Award winner Jason Michael Webb (MJ the Musical) leads the music team, while Emmy Award winner Ebony Williams (Sneakerella; Beyoncé’s Renaissance World Tour) choreographs.

Former Prince collaborators Bobby Z and Morris Hayes will serve as music advisers, bringing firsthand knowledge of Prince’s sound and performance legacy to the Broadway production. The design team includes Tony winners David Zinn, Montana Levi Blanco, Justin Townsend, and Gareth Owen.

Released in 1984, Purple Rain became one of Prince’s defining works. The film won the Academy Award for Best Original Song Score and was added to the National Film Registry in 2019. Its soundtrack spent 24 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and remains among the best-selling albums of all time.
