‘Paranormal Activity’ on Broadway Hosts Free Halloween Movie Screening in NYC, Extends Run Through February 2027
The Broadway thriller invites fans to a free outdoor screening of the original horror film on October 31, with a chance to win tickets to the hit stage production.
Halloween in New York City is about to get a little more frightening. The Broadway production of “Paranormal Activity” will host a free outdoor screening of the original 2009 horror film on Saturday, October 31, at 5 p.m., outside the August Wilson Theatre, 245 West 52nd Street.
Fans are encouraged to bring a chair, blanket, or something comfortable to sit on and gather along West 52nd Street between Broadway and Eighth Avenue. Attendees will also have a chance to win a free pair of tickets to a future Broadway performance.
The Halloween event comes as the critically acclaimed, sold-out stage production has announced an eight-week extension. Written by Levi Holloway and directed by Felix Barrett, “Paranormal Activity” will now run through February 28, 2027, at the August Wilson Theatre.
The original “Paranormal Activity,” written and directed by Oren Peli and released by Paramount Pictures in 2009, became a landmark of modern horror. Produced on a modest budget, the found-footage thriller transformed ordinary domestic spaces into settings of psychological terror, grossing nearly $200 million worldwide and launching a franchise that eventually expanded to seven feature films.
The Broadway adaptation introduces an entirely new story inspired by the film series. James and Lou relocate from Chicago to London, hoping to escape their troubled past, only to discover that changing locations may not be enough. Its unsettling premise suggests that places are not necessarily haunted; sometimes, people are.
The production stars Cher Álvarez as Lou, Travis A. Knight as James, Shannon Cochran as Carolanne and Eva Kaminsky as Etheline Cotgrave, with understudies Caron Buinis, Caroline Hendricks and Michael Holding. Álvarez, Knight, Cochran, Buinis, Hendricks and Holding are making their Broadway debuts, reprising roles they performed in earlier North American productions.
Holloway, whose credits include “Grey House,” joins forces with Barrett, the creative mind behind the immersive theatrical production “Sleep No More.” The creative team includes Tony Award-nominated scenic and costume designer Fly Davis, Tony-winning illusions designer Chris Fisher, lighting designer Anna Watson, Tony-winning sound designer Gareth Fry, and Drama Desk Award-winning video and projections designer Luke Halls.
Before arriving on Broadway, “Paranormal Activity” played sold-out engagements in Chicago, Los Angeles, Washington, D.C., and San Francisco, followed by productions in Toronto and Boston. The show originated at Leeds Playhouse in Britain before transferring to London's Ambassadors Theatre, where it earned a 2026 Laurence Olivier Award nomination for Best Entertainment or Comedy Play. The West End production resumed performances in August and is selling tickets through November 7.
The Broadway production is presented by Melting Pot in association with Paramount Pictures, with Seaview serving as executive producer. Paramount Products & Experiences licenses the stage rights.
For those who prefer their Halloween scares on the big screen, the October 31 screening offers a free opportunity to revisit the film that started it all, this time just steps from the Broadway theater where its supernatural legacy continues.
