‘Slanted Floors’ returns to New York in intimate new production at Astor Place Theatre
Original cast members Kyle Beltran and Adam Chanler-Berat reunite for acclaimed site-specific play, now welcoming audiences of 30.
In a city where apartment space is precious, “Slanted Floors” offers an unusually intimate theatrical experience: an evening inside the lives of two New Yorkers, with the audience practically at their doorstep.
Following its Nov. 2 opening, the acclaimed production has returned in an expanded engagement at Astor Place Theatre in Lower Manhattan, where a specially designed, 30-seat performance space preserves the closeness of its original Brooklyn staging.
Created by Billy McEntee and directed by Ryan Dobrin, “Slanted Floors” reunites original cast members Kyle Beltran and Adam Chanler-Berat as Teddy and Kaplan, two men who share a rent-controlled downtown apartment where they work, gossip, and dream. Over the course of one evening, audiences are invited into their home and their private world.
The production began in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, with performances limited to just six audience members. Its unconventional approach earned considerable attention, including recognition as one of Vulture’s 10 best plays of 2025 and a 2026 Drama Desk Award nomination for Unique Theatrical Experience.
Beltran, whose credits include “A Case for the Existence of God” and “The Flick,” and Chanler-Berat, known for “Next to Normal” and “Peter and the Starcatcher,” return to roles that helped establish the production’s reputation.
The creative team includes scenic and costume designer Clint Ramos, lighting and co-sound designer Nick Auer, video and co-sound designer Dan Kuan Peeples, associate director Isabelle Chirls, set decorator and props designer Samantha Shoffner, production stage manager Damayanti Wallace, and artwork designer Caitlin Bebb.
The production is presented by Lombardo & Zell Productions, Patrick Catullo, Clint Ramos, and No Guarantees Theatrical Productions, with associate producers Shira Friedman and Sandro Lorenzo. Baseline Theatrical provides general management.
Tickets start at $79, with select ticket options offering a cup of soup and an even more intimate experience.
