United Colors of Holi: Good Karma LA and South Asian Radio Network, Rukus Avenue Partner For First-Ever ‘HoliHype LA’ Fundraiser!

The Good Karma LA, Rukus Avenue Radio, and Styled by Ambika have partnered to create the first-ever ‘HoliHype LA’ event fundraiser to combat homelessness and hunger in Los Angeles. The 'HoliHype LA' event occurred on March 25, 2023, from 12 PM to 4 PM at beTrue, an Event Space located in Hollywood, California.

One hundred percent of the ticket proceeds have been pledged towards community programs led by The Good Karma LA to serve the unhoused population of Skid Row, in addition to raising funds for a more significant project focused on building a mobile community kitchen for food distribution in Los Angeles.

The event commemorated the Indian holiday Holi – also known as the festival of colors. Of course, you don't have to tell an Indian twice to come out and play Holi on this day, but this meaningful fundraiser encouraged attendees to come out in full force and celebrate “the colors of life” and the advent of spring as a catalyst to pump that energy back into LA neighborhoods, uplift the local community, and honor the power of service. And yes, every desi and non-desi had an absolute blast throwing every shade of color they had around!

Check out the video above that not only highlights the thrilling Holi event day but also speaks about the encouraging and noble mission of Good Karma LA, supported by Rukus Avenue Radio and Styled by Ambika, which aims to unite the greater Los Angeles community while sharing the South Asian heritage and culture.

Here's who participated and contributed to bringing more awareness about Indian and South Asian culture on 'HoliHype LA' day:

Local vendors, part of the South Asian Marketplace, set up booths showcasing their products and services for guests to Interact, shop, and meet, including Karmagraphy (full-service fusion dance company), Kulture Khazana (products focused on heritage and culture), Yaga (CBD products for pain and healing), Raga (South Asian-inspired apparel), Sahara (NGO dedicated to helping victims of domestic violence), In A Perfect World (NGO that empowers youth through mentorship and building schools around the world), Element Apothec (health and beauty brand), Hinal Beauty Studio (henna tattoo artist), Haf and Haf (modern Desi art)

South Asian DJs in LA set the grounds reverberating with foot-stomping music with headliner Peter Madana, and performances by Saum G, a renowned musician and cello player, and live dhol beats by Vinay Sharma of So Dhol.

South Asian-themed cocktails were customized just for the event by Jivati and Cada Dia Tequila

South Asian Food Trucks & Snacks from local restaurants, including local South Asian favorites like Arth Bar and Kitchen and Chennai Tiffin, added to the flavors of the day.

All guests received Holi color packets    to   partake in the Holi ‘Festival of Colors’, and yes   partake, they did!
